Equi-Med Ag are excited to welcome on board Cedric C-H. Chan, BVSc CertES(Orth) DiplECVS MRCVS, Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons, RCVS & European Recognised Specialist in Equine Surgery.  Cedric joins us as our ‘Veterinary wound consultant’ to coordinate further research and development of Equi-Med Ag Products.

A 1989 graduate of Bristol Veterinary School, Cedric has worked in both first opinion and referral equine practices in the UK, Europe (Germany, France), South East Asia, China and Australia since qualification. He completed a 3 year post-graduate equine surgical residency position at Glasgow Veterinary School (which included externships in the UK, USA and Germany), gaining the RCVS Certificate in Equine Surgery (Orthopaedics) in 1995 and became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (Equine Surgery) in 2002. He is both an RCVS & European Recognised Specialist in Equine Surgery, a peer reviewed position of which there are currently only around 25 such consultant specialists in the UK.

In 2002, at the request of fellow veterinary colleagues, Cedric formed NW Equine Referrals Ltd., an equine surgical consultancy practice based in London. The practice covers over specific equine clinics in the North and South of England, France and Asia (including China and Singapore) working with all types of horse from Thoroughbreds-in-training, Olympic performance,, eventers, showjumping, dressage, polo, hunting, general pleasure riding, to a child’s first pony and donkeys.

His specialist skills acquired over 20 years and 1000’s of cases and surgeries include advanced lameness investigation and treatment, general surgery (in particular, wound reconstruction), orthopaedic surgery (in particular, diagnostic and surgical arthroscopy/tenoscopy/bursoscopy – ‘key-hole’ procedures), fracture repair, foal orthopaedics, management of chronic synovial sepsis) and soft tissue surgery (in particular, head region, colic and laparoscopy).

He is proactive in continuing education as both a course organiser and lecturer for BEVA/CPD Solutions/private clinics in-house/ACPAT and speaking at BEVA Annual Congresses/Day Meetings and international meetings. Cedric has published papers in journals including the Veterinary Record, Equine Veterinary Education (EVE), In-Practice, UK Vet, various textbooks and has peer reviewed papers for EVE and Equine Veterinary Journal (EVJ). He was the Chief Examiner/Advisor for the post-graduate RCVS Certificate in Equine Surgery (Orthopaedics) in 2011 and an examiner/advisor for the RCVS Certificates in Equine Surgery (Orthopadics & Soft Tissue) and RCVS Certificate in Equine Practice from 2009-2012.

He was a member of the FEI international veterinary treating teams for all the equestrian events at the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

He was appointed by the Olympic Council of Asia and FEI as Chief Equine Surgeon responsible for all the equestrian disciplines at the 16th Asian Games held in November, 2010 in Guangzhou, China.

Cedric was invited to perform the first stifle arthroscopy for a soft tissue injury under modern general anaesthestic technique on the Chinese mainland in October, 2011 on China’s top performimg showjumper of 2010 & 2011 assisted by one of his UK vet & nurse teams.
